Trend Watch
Floral prints are in full bloom for this summer -
pretty and feminine or big and bold, just make sure
it has lots of rich color. If you aren’t comfortable
wearing bold colored prints, try black and white for
a more classic look. Also add bold color to your
closet this summer - bright blue, yellows and pinks
are still in style.
Short shorts, mini skirts and maxis - all lengths
are hot this season. Choose your shorties wisely and
balance the top appropriately (i.e., skip the mini
skirt with the tank top and instead pair a skirt or
short with a billowy, trapeze style top). If you
favor the maxi dresses, pair them with higher heels
if you are on the shorter side to give you a longer,
lean look.
Cinch Belts with high-waisted skirts and pants are
in, but this look tends to be unflattering to most
body types. To wear this style effortlessly, make
sure you have a defined waist and a long torso. If
you are short waisted or have a thicker waist, the
belt should be the same color as the skirt or pants
so it doesn’t highlight your trouble spot.
Black and White - always a fresh, chic look. For
summer, try black and white print dresses or
casually pair a black tank or top with a pair of
crisp white shorts or capris.
Stripes are hot and the best way to wear this look
is vertically and thin. The thicker the stripes, the
more they mold around body areas you prefer to keep
hidden! If you are slim, horizontal is an okay
choice. Best choices are the Rebecca Beeson Wrap
Dresses and Sweetees Phineas Cami (almost sold out!)
And Sweetees Yancy Dress.
Other continuing trends include metallics, ballet
flats, babydoll dresses, 60s mod style, trapeze
style tops and dresses and square neck tops.
In Your Shoes
We all know that shoes can make or break the outfit.
So what do you wear with the plethora of summer
frocks? First, don’t match heavy pumps with feminine
and airy dresses. Try wedge sandals or open toe and
PLEASE skip the pantyhose unless you are going for
that Mrs. Doubtfire look. Second, if you are wearing
a solid color dress, it’s best not to match the
pumps to the dress color. Instead, try a metallic or
nude sandal for a more current look. Flats look
great with trapeze and mod style dresses as well as
shorter tunics.
