that one area on your body that makes you stand out
from the rest. Or, maybe you have two.
Proportional challenges within your body type are very common. Look below to find
our Fit
Solutions for those problem areas regardless of your
body type:
Big Hips
wider than
shoulders by at least 3"
|
WEAR
Styles with fullness above the waist (using gathers, ruffles and wider necklines).
Pants with a bootcut or slight
flare and skirts with A-line shape.
Tops and jackets that end below your hip line. |
AVOID
Tops or jackets that end at your
widest hip point.
Pants or skirts with horizontal
pockets across your widest hip area or
those with bunchy pleating or gathering.
Skinny pants,
trumpet or tight tulip skirts.

Thick Waist
little
definition with a less than 3" difference between
hip and shoulder

WEAR
Deep v-neck tops and longer styles
to lengthen your torso and give the
illusion of a slim waist.
Lower rise pants and drop waisted
skirts. |
AVOID
Thick belts around your waist.
Horizontal lines near your
midsection.
Fullness or gathering around your waist.

Bottom Heavy

WEAR
A-line styles that skim over your
larger areas.
Skirts at knee length or longer.
Wear pants with a
roomier, stiff leg that are bootcut or
flared
Styles that add fullness above the
waist to balance proportions by using
shoulder pads, puff sleeves, boatnecks,
dolman sleeves.
Darker, matte
fabrics on your bottom half for a
slimming effect. |
AVOID
Tight fitting and shorter skirts.
Horizontal lines near your bottom
or thigh area and any extra material in
your skirts and pants.
Crop tops and any top that stops at your
widest point.
Bulky pockets or
tiers around your bottom and thighs.
Bold and big prints and
chunky horizontal stripes
on your bottom half.

Short Torso
Bend to
your side and place your hand between your hip and
rib cage. If you are short-waisted, you don’t
have a lot of room between your top hip bone and
lower rib cage.

WEAR
Lower rise pants and skirts to
lengthen your upper half.
Tops that end at least one or two
inches below your natural waist.
Shorter jackets layered
over longer tops.
Tops that create a
strong vertical line on top like deep
v-necks. Or layer v-neck blouses
over camis and t-shirts. |
AVOID
Crop tops or jackets that end at
your natural waist (unless you pair them
with a longer shirt underneath)
High waisted pants and skirts.
Thick belts at the
waistline (especially in a
contrasting color to your outfit).

Long Torso
Bend to your
side and place your hand between your hip and rib
cage. If you are long-waisted, you have a lot
of room between your top hip bone and lower rib
cage.

WEAR
Higher waisted pants and skirts.
Crop tops will shorten your upper body
and lengthen the bottom.
Empire waist
dresses.
Heels and longer hems
to lengthen legs |
AVOID
Super low rise pants and skirts.
Long tunics or tops (unless your
legs are relatively long) .
Capri pants or
pedal pushers that make your legs look
short.

Small Bust
size 34A or
less

WEAR
A padded or contoured bra.
Tops or dresses with gathering, ruching,
or petite ruffling on top.

AVOID
Tight shirts without a padded bra.
Tube tops and dresses without a padded
bra.

Large Bust
over size 38C
|
WEAR
Lighter fabrics that are soft and
fluid.
Tops that create a vertical line like
v-necks and open necklines. .
Darker, matte
fabrics on top.

AVOID
Big shoulder pads.
Heavy, structured fabrics on top
Detailing around
the bust area (like breast pockets, big
buttons, wide collars or excess
gathering).
