FASHION INSIGHT
Spring and Summer called for bright and bold and the white dress. So what’s in store for the cooler months? Trends are centered loosely around styles from yesteryear, especially the 40s and 60s which is not surprising given the current economic atmosphere. During the 40s, the world was at war and the first nuclear weapon was produced. Fabric was rationed and in contrast to that directive, Dior created the "New Look". Women dressed to impress and styles focused on displaying the womanly silhouette. It was a time of frugality and uncertainty.

The 60s brought about a change in our culture and also radical changes in women’s fashion. Hemlines rose to create the "minidress" and styles became more liberal and shapeless, possibly an indicator of the feminist movement and definitely representing a revolt on adulthood and responsibility. A new generation was born, and the nation’s youth questioned authority and promoted freedom and peace. It’s no wonder this era produced the babydoll style and psychedelic prints from Pucci and metallic, modern shifts by Rabanne. History lends inspiration to the fashion landscape each season and provides a backdrop onto which the designers create. So, with the aforementioned in mind, what’s in store for Fall 2007?

The fashion mood is glamorous, vintage and chic, modern and minimalist. There is a sense of nature in Fall’s apparel colors and a return of eclectic fashion and expressing one’s unique sense of style. We are seeing a lot of exotic, rich hues in teal, gold, burnt orange, deep purple and greens. Magenta and red are always in style. Mocha brown will add contrast to the rich hues and will become a staple next to black. Gray is the color of the season and will be seen in many dresses, tops and bottoms.

Trend Watch

The return to glamour and a ladylike silhouette is all the rage this season. Think 1940 glam; Casablanca, Ingrid Bergman, Marlene Deitrich, and Rita Hayworth wearing pencil skirts, cinched waists, shift dresses and figure flaunting styles. Contrasting this trend is the stay of the 1960s rebel with babydoll style mini dresses and tunics with sleek styles, a retro feel and rich colors. Bold, colorful geometric prints are important this season and feminine, flowy, trapeze styles remain.

Shimmery fabrics with metallic accents add a punch to your wardrobe and will dominate Holiday wear. Patent leather is still a favorite finish for handbags, belts and shoes. Stones and gems will adorn clothing making accessories negligible.

The focus is on sleeves such as lantern, kimono and bubble to add some balance to minimalist styles. Pants make a comeback with the arrival of wide legged trousers and higher waist so get yourself a great pair of trousers this season. Leggings and tights work well with the shorter mini styles and are a must-have for cooler weather. Soft and natural neutrals will play a big role in complementing the richer colors.

Mix and match designer pieces with thrift store style or "budget" clothing. Wear a bohemian style, flowy dress with patent leather shoes and create a hippie meets fashionista look. It’s all about you this season so wear what you like. Update your jackets and bottoms, throw in a few modern dresses and tops and you’re good to go.

Shoes to Boot

What’s in for shoes? Complementing the glamorous look, we are seeing more of the peep toe heels, T-straps and maryjanes. The "bootie" is hot this season especially paired with tights or leggings. Patent leather, platforms and pumps are still a staple. Calf boots are always nice over leggings and tights, paired with a tunic or mini dress.

New Arrivals
